Kanye West At The Perez Hilton Party: SXSW 2009

As if seeing Kanye once already wasn't enough....literally hours after seeing him at The Fader Fort party he decided to drop in and perform a surprise appearance at The Perez Hilton Party. Not only did it catch Perez off guard, but the crowd as well as they had witnessed nothing but all female lineups throughout the party. Before the performance I was standing next to Kanye as we watched Rye Rye perform and soon after he began to make his way on stage to perform. He played about 5-6 songs for the crowd, it was note-worthy performance I will never forget.

SXSW Here I Come.....

wristbands
Here I am at Denver International Airport (with Julio from Cause=Time) about to embark on my fourth straight South By Southwest Music Festival, I would consider this by far one of the best times had. The game plan is to have daily updates with review and pics after each day (if tending to the hangover does not take priority). I will again be joining forces with the dynamic duo knows simply as Ultra8201 as we report all the craziness that is good ol' Austin, Texas. You can follow my happenings via Twitter:

Starfucker at The High Dive

A Walking Disaster contributor Randy washington chimes in with his review of Starfucker at The High Dive the other night, With nearly thousands of bands converging in the ATX this week I am going to try and find time to check these guys out.

Broadway and First was crowded with fixed gears and tight Levi’s las night. Four slamming acts crammed into the shoebox of the venue that is the Hi-Dive. Having only recently heard of the headliner The Parenthtical Girls, I was there to see a band that has been floating on my iPod for a while; Starfucker. This four man rig based out of Portland brings an array of instruments on stage with them as they bump out synthy dance music laced with caramel sweet vocals.

Their self titled album was released in mid 2008 and they have been on tour since. Already being booked all the way through May, Starfucker’s show holds surprisingly close to the structure of the album. Any of the scratching heard on the recorded tracks is done on stage with a turntable (while playing guitar). Also, the ever-present recordings of philosopher Alan Watts transfer over to the live show offering killer segues into and out of each song. Starting slightly late, Starfucker’s set was short but dense. The fellas were able to hit favorite tracks like “Pop Song” and “Medicine” but inevitably (four bands, one ticket) were forced to skip a few songs.

Starfucker travels on along with a majority of the music world to Austin for South By where they are slated for a handful of gigs.

Kanye West To Two-Step His Way Into Austin For SXSW

The Associative Press is confirming that Kanye West is indeed playing a show this year at SXSW. This rumor has been creating a buzz since The Levi's Fader Fort lineup was announce last week. No actual date and venue have been announced, keep checking back for the latest.

SXSW 2009: Mile Hi-Fidelity 2009(3/20) ::

For those of you who will be in Austin during SXSW I highly recommend dropping by this showcase featuring some of the Mile High's finest bands. Having the pleasure of seeing most of these bands here in Denver I would say that you will not be disappointed.

Mile Hi-Fidelity

Mile Hi-Fidelity @ SXSW 2009 Friday March 20, 2009 1:30pm-7:00pm @ The Jackalope 404 E 6th St (6th and Trinity) Austin, TX 78701-3740 Free admission and drinks

Open to the public, Gigbot, Max3.com along with Morning After Records, is reprising the widely successful Mile Hi-Fidelity party at SXSW 2009. With the highly successful music acts that have broken out of Denver in the past several years (the Fray, 3oh!3, the Flobots, Devotchka…) the industry has it’s spotlight on Colorado. Mile Hi-Fidelity is taking that spotlight to Austin to showcase other up-and-coming bands from the Front Range like it has done in years past. Vaux, Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots, The Photo Atlas and The Hot IQs are just a few of the bands that have played this party in earlier years and the potential this years is even bigger. With some of the best bands to have ever come out of Denver performing this year from start to finish you’re going to have a hard time leaving. Mile Hi-Fidelity will be held at the Jackalope – located on 6th St and Trinity, right in the heart of SXSW

Band Schedule:
2:00 P.M.-The Epilogues
2:45 P.M.-Meese
3:30 P.M.-The Photo Atlas
4:15 P.M.-Young Coyotes
5:00 P.M.- Born In The Flood
5:45 P.M.-Dressy Bessy

Do It To It SXSW Party

A pretty respectable collection of Austin DJ’s (Bird Peterson, Mel, Klassen) with touring talent (Nadastrom and Tittsworth). The line-up kind of reads as if the Beauty Bar and Black & Tan had a sweaty day-glo saturday night baby, all that’s missing in fact is the requisite annie ray photo booth. Either way, it’s  a solid line-up all around, and for sure worth stopping by, especially considering that it all goes down at a sushi joint, and one I like at that.
