The Battle Of Denver

What had been billed as The Battle Of Denver by the nearly 8,000 lucky fans that had been granted free access to this show by way of lottery, a mesmerizing set sent the Denver Coliseum into a wild frenzy. Taking part in this non-partisan anti-war event was Rage Against The Machine who rocked the crowd with a slew of classics that we have all come to enjoy.
Lead singer Zach de la Rocha’s powerful stage presence complimented Tom Morello’s wailing guitar sounds as the Denver crowd absorbed every ounce of energy fed to them. After a few songs into their set Rage were joined on stage by Wayne Kramer of the legendary MC5 who together performed a rendition of the classic “Kick Out The Jam”.
With many politically laced lyrics it was only fitting they made The Democratic National Convention their own platform for the issues facing our country. The last time Rage played a convention was in 2000 in Los Angeles, were they gave an impromptu performance outside The Staples Center that was marred by a riot and much scrutiny by law enforcement. This time things were a bit more peaceful as members of the band joined with protesters on a four-mile march all the way to the Pepsi Center.
The concert itself featured noteworthy performance by State Radio, The Coup, Denver’s own The Flobots and headliner Rage, who are also scheduled to perform at next week’s Republican National Convention in the Twin Cities.
