Do you remember where you where in 1992? Many of us were clued to our television sets watching the Los Angeles riots unfold right in front of our eyes. On Thursday night the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado witnessed a different form of LA Riots, this time in the form of the DJ super-group hailing from the left coast. On a bill that featured Kid Cudi, who ultimately cancelled last minute to be on BET’s 106 and Park show to debut his new video Day N’ Nite. Although many in the crowd were left out in the cold (literally) with Cudi’s cancellation, Daniel LeDisko of LA Riots turned the one-time gothic church venue into an all out dance party. With customary club banging remixes that are associated with the Los Angeles duo, the crowd seemed to enjoy hit after hit. Even the club dancers were dressed in scantily clad riot gear to celebrate the occasion. After a few songs the club seemed to forget that Kid Cudi had cancelled and let loose to the beat of one of the West Coast’s finest. Blending a mix of indie and electro Daniel ignited the floor with remixes of The Ting Tings and Stevie Nicks to name a few. Currently on tour the duo will return to Denver in April after a stint next month at SXSW where I’m sure I will see at a random day party enjoying the Texas heat.

Electro duo L.A. Riots emerged in 2007 with a succession of remixes and within a year's time became an MP3 blogosphere sensation, reworking tracks by such fashionable artists as Justice, Chromeo, and Hot Chip. Comprised of DJ/producers Daniel LeDisko and Jo'B, the duo first made a name for itself in 2007 with remixes including the Mystery Jets' "Diamonds in the Dark," the Scanners' "Lowlife," Justice's "The Party" (featuring Uffie), and Chromeo's "Bonafide Lovin'.

K.i.D CuDi’s music can only be described as the next level of music in our generation and for generations to come. Cudi (originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but spent the last 3 years living in Brooklyn) fuses alternative rock, hip hop and occasionally R & B, to form feel good and emotionally conscious records. His content is filled with witty explanations about himself and his lifes journeys, with a twist of story telling scenerios. His first single “Day N Nite” is nothing more than a conscious awareness record about his faults and how he deals with them. “I’m sure everyone has been in at least one or two of the scenerios I mentioned in “Day N Night”. It was a record designed to let the people out there know—hey, we all have issues. But there’s ways to get through and there’s always a brighter day ahead filled with answers to the toughest situations; we all get lonely sometimes, its life.” With every record, especially “Day N Nite”, CuDi vows to put his heart into each record, so after hearing each song you can feel like you actually know him. “People like records they can relate to, even if you can’t relate to something I speak about, you’ll at least understand my mind, I won’t lose anyone. Even if they haven’t walked in my shoes, they’ll feel me for me.”

Steve Aoki goes to Church
To be more specific The Church nightclub here in Denver. Kid Millionaire himself brought his crazy West Coast party mayhem to The Mile High Thursday night to the delight of the near sold out crowd. This was my first time seeing the Dim Mak Records founder himself, always seeming to miss him wherever I went. I am a frequent observer to the Dim Mak blogs and found myself thinking, could the Denver crowd be as hyped as those Los Angeles crowds at Cinespace? The answer an overwhelming Hell Yeah!!!
One thing stands out when Aoki is on the decks he seems to feed off the crowd's energy where usually the crowd feeds off the DJ. Playing his blend of Nu-Electro the once former gothic Church venue was pulsating and erupting in an all out dance party of epic proportions. The highlight of the night came when Aoki played his now famous Weird Science Remix(Weird Science is the moniker by which Aoki and Blake Miller of the group Moving Units go by)of Bloc Party's "Helicopter", soon after going into an electro version of Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name Of". The well-traveled DJ mashes an eclectic set electro mixed in with a dose of indie and you have yourself a sure fire party anthem.

Diplo
A-Trak and Diplo
Looks like one of my favorite DJ's will be making a stop at The Church on June 26th. Here is some footage taken from SXSW by my good buddies over at Ultra8201. Diplo will be bringing the noise to the Mile High City next Thursday. As a member of the Mad Decent roster Diplo has been instrumental with bringing new artist to the forefront such as M.I.A., Bon De Role, Santogold to name a few.
