WOXY is coming to Austin

Future Sounds is happy to announce a brand new addition to their family… this addition isn't an infant, but rather a full-blown legend in the indie radio scene. If you didn't know already, WOXY.com is independent Internet radio focused on the future of indie, alternative and modern rock. In addition to its 24/7 radio broadcast, WOXY curates its WOXY Lounge Act in-studio performance series. Artists are invited into the WOXY Lounge for an interview and live on-the-air performance, and the resulting sessions are archived and podcast.

WOXY.com is moving to Austin, Texas, and will begin broadcasting live from the Austin Theater on September 8th. Upon moving to Austin, WOXY will begin filming its Lounge Act sessions in HD so you will now be able to see and hear your favorite up-and-coming bands.

THE DEAD WEATHER recently took over WOXY.com, creating The Dead Weather Radio and played all of their favorite jams and new Dead Weather songs. You can hear the re-airing of those broadcasts this Saturday from 4-6pm (Eastern).

In addition to The Dead Weather takeover, WOXY has been busy the past few months, recently adding CD quality broadcast streams, launching the WOXY Radio iPhone app, and adding 4 new original programs: Pampelmoose New Music Hour, Future Sounds, 1-2-3-4 More More More Show, and the Waiting Room.

With a 26-year history beginning as an FM broadcaster and now online, WOXY has garnered popular accolades and critical acclaim from listeners and press from around the world: Rolling Stone, Spin, NME, Entertainment Weekly, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and numerous others. Worlds apart from tightly formatted terrestrial radio, WOXY's DJs spin tracks they care about and provide the story behind the music, creating a musical montage, akin to the adventurous days of FM free-form radio. Listener requests are encouraged and incorporated into the playlist.

September 1998 marked a new era for WOXY, when they began simulcasting their FM broadcast on the Internet. Soon, listeners everywhere who had been disenfranchised from corporate radio turned to their computers for an exciting alternative. Arbitron regularly ranked WOXY as the most listened to commercial Modern Rock station in the country. Then in 2004, WOXY became a pioneer yet again by becoming one of the first terrestrial radio stations in the country to dump it's FM broadcast signal and deliver it's programming online-only.

Today, WOXY.com holds steadfast to the original blueprint for The Future Of Rock and Roll: a responsibility to expose large amounts of interesting and innovative new music, emerging artists and styles, presented with respect not only for the music itself, but the listening audience at large.

Future Sounds, with their weekly radio program on WOXY, released their 33rd compilation on iTunes on June 30th, marking the debut of Future Sounds Records. Originally conceived in March 2003 as a mix-tape to distribute among friends, the Future Sounds franchise has grown into a must-have among industry tastemakers. The brainchild of DJ and music manager Larry Little, the Future Sounds compilations are now distributed throughout the music industry, as well as in over 1,200 retail locations in the US and on iTunes, and have spawned a blog that has focused on up-and-coming artists since its inception in May 2004.

Though based in Los Angeles, California, Future Sounds has also evolved into a record company, a North American tour, a management company, a monthly column in Record Of The Day in the UK, a merchandise company, a weekly radio program on WOXY.com, and a network of monthly club nights in six major US markets called THE RUMBLE.

Future Sounds Records opens its doors for business with the release of the Future Sounds 33 compilation. Future Sounds' newest enterprise will primarily be a digital singles label as well as engaging in one-off partnerships with emerging artists. The latest incarnation of the Future Sounds compilation will be available exclusively to iTunes today, and features artists-on-the-brink from around the world. Previously only available promotionally, the thirty-third installment of Future Sounds marks the first time the compilation is available for sale to the general public.
